Police record checks

Some non-profit organizations request a police record check, also known as a background check as part of their screening process for volunteering. In Ontario, you must give consent to the check before it is conducted.

There are three types of police record checks.

  • Level 1 - Criminal Record Check (CR)
  • Level 2 - Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJM)
  • Level 3 - Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC)

For more information on the three levels, visit the Ontario website Police record check

If an organization asks for a record check, you will have to fill out a form and bring it to your local police detachment. There are fees for a police check.

To obtain a copy of the form and information on payable fees, visit the Ontario Provincial Police.

The Prescott-Russell region has three local police detachments: Hawkesbury, Russell (Embrun) and Rockland. For the contact information of each detachment, visit the Ontario Provincial Police.
